Dear Business Partner,
How is it that we all do business in the same world, and yet do it so differently?
How is it that some of us perceive our current reality and interpret it as the worst of economic times, no opportunities, nothing will work out right, negative?
And others of us perceive our current reality and interpret it as the best of economic times, overflowing with opportunities, everything will work out fine, positive?
I’m Dr. Joey Faucette, author of Work Positive in a Negative World. I grew up hearing my grandparents talk about the Great Depression. If ever there was an example of our doing business in the same world and doing it so differently, it is the Great Depression.
Did you know that Dale Carnegie wrote How to Win Friends and Influence People in the middle of the Great Depression? His training company still wins and influences people today.
Did you know that during the Great Depression in Kentucky, a grandfather started pressure-cooking chicken with secret herbs and spices? His name was “Colonel” Harland Sanders, and you probably have eaten at a KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) somewhere recently.
Did you know that two young electrical engineering graduates started an electrical machine business in a rented garage in Palo Alto, California, during the Great Depression? Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard officially became business partners in 1939. You probably have printed something out on one of their printers or used a computer with the “HP” label on it this week.
For most people, the Great Depression was the worst of times. For Dale Carnegie, Colonel Sanders, Hewlett and Packard, and a host of others, it was the best of times.
Whom would you choose to do business like?
